"The kids today don't have the patience for vampires. They want to see some mad slasher running around and chopping off heads.''
- Roddy McDowall, FRIGHT NIGHT (1985)

This new film is a remake of the FRIGHT NIGHT (1985). The campy original, starring the neighbor on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN. No, not Ted McGinley, Amanda Bearse. The original movie is worth checking out.

Let's Fast Forward

Charley Brewster is a high school kid, probably about 17 years old, living in the suburbs. One day, a new guy moves next door. This man sucks... the life of all those he interacts with. But enough about Colin Farrell.

Jerry (Farrell) is this new neighbor/vampire, but Charlie doesn't think much of it, because he is going out with an attractive girl (she's a total bitch). Longtime friend, Mc Lovin’ (Mintz-Plasse) tells him he is going out with a skank, and warns him about the vampire living next door.

I won't spoil anything; you can figure it out from here.

Let's take a look back...

Vampire Spoofs are their own genre. Which is tricky because vampire movies are never supposed to be serious to begin with, they are mainly campy B movies.

BRAM STROKER'S DRACULA (1992) and INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994); are two good 'serious' vampire movies.

Spoofs

  • DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT(1995) Mel Brooks worst movie
  • VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN (1995) (this one is a gray area-I’m not sure if it was terrible on purpose)

These two spoofs are a couple of the worst movies ever made, no exaggeration.

Being completely devoid of artistic merit (and Luke Perry didn't help), BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1992) doesn’t really count serious vampire movie or spoof.

At some point, vampires no longer appeared in black suits with capes. LOST BOYS (1987) started this trend. Things really got going with the BLADE and UNDERWORLD franchises. Can't Wesley Snipes just disappear already... oh wait, he did.

And then there is TWILIGHT; you know what, I am just not going there.

Back to this new FRIGHT NIGHT

A well executed, satirical homage of a ridiculous genre . If your looking for something to sink your teeth into, look no further.

Final Verdict: 85 out of 100

Sidenote:                                                                                            And I thought I'd live forever
But now I'm not so sure

If you watch carefully, you'll see Lisa Loeb has a cameo. She walks around an empty room for several minutes, just singing.

Mom I don’t need hot coco, I didn’t have a nightmare.

A character named Evil Ed Thompson.

Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1990) (David Carradine, Morgan Brittany and Bruce Campbell)  the town of Everett Purgatory. Sunscreen was a game changer in the vampire world. I’m not a huge Bruce Campbell fan, but this one was good.

Colin Farrell sucks... the life of all those he interacts with. Movie poster no country for old men.  Mc Lovin’ tells him he going out with a skank warns him about vampires. Obsession with vampires has put squim on the map. A decent satirical look at a ridiculous genre.
